A Principal's Perspective: Getting The Most Out of Classroom iPads
This article is about high school students receiving iPads as a learning tool. I was attracted to this article because I was a part of a new pilot at my job where we issued our students with iPads. Personally I think this is a great idea if implemented correctly. With the advancement of technology all around us, I think students should use them as a resource for school.
I work with Executive students and this was the first year that we have issued iPads to students and I think it was a wise choice. The iPad allowed us to save money on printing course materials. Instead of carrying binders with up to 400 pages, they just carry their iPad that has electronic course materials with them. If students are traveling, they can always stay on top of their course work without carrying tons of books and binders around. iPads can be a valuable resource in my opinion.

I was wondering how the district handles the replacement of lost or broken iPads? The school district where I live is debating getting iPads but another local district did this and set the replacement cost so low that students would sell them and pay the much smaller replacement amount. I fear that this will in turn cost the district a lot more money to keep replacing them.
ReplyDeleteA few teachers from my school actually went and observed a school that issued iPads to all of the students. They said that the students took such good care of them and used them all the time. I think it would be so awesome. Even though it could be very expensive like Yasmin said, but the school would have to set very strict rules about the use of the iPad. Technology is something that students are so knowledgeable about and I think having this would help them stay organized.
ReplyDeleteThe benefit to my program is that it is an Executive Master's Program so the students pay enough for tuition for us to issue the iPads. They are their's to keep when they are done with the program.
ReplyDeleteI can see in the k-12 setting where issuing these devices can be challenging but I agree, if there is a strict process developed, this will be a great educational tool for the children.
